We need volunteers! Become a grove steward today.

If you love trees and have a couple of hours to give every few months, two tree groves are in need of dedicated stewards.  What does one do as a steward? Visit your grove, check each tree for health and identification tag, pick up trash, and report back to CEF with your findings.

Contact Children and Elders Forest for more information and to get involved.  The trees will thank you!

Our Mission

Our mission is to plant indigenous trees in groves,
to deepen bonds among the generations,
and to improve the quality of life in our communities.

About Us

Children and Elders Forest has given life to over 700 trees comprising about 50 different species. Since 2005, Children and Elders Forest, or CEF for short, has established nine groves. The goal of Children and Elders Forest is to add and sustain as many trees as possible by having multi-generational teams sponsor trees. Each tree sponsoring team typically consists of at least one child and one elder, but there is no limit to how many people are on a team. In fact, the teams can be families, friends, or organizations. Many people also sponsor trees in memory of a loved one.

The best time to plant a tree is 20 years ago. The second best time is now.

Dear Tree Advocate

Thank you so much for advocating and supporting the growth and longevity of trees planted in our groves throughout the Bloomington-Normal area.

Did you know?:

Improper pruning can affect the health of the tree.

Children and Elders Forest works closely with the City of Bloomington, the Town of Normal, and other partners for development and upkeep of the groves, which includes proper, careful pruning of the trees.

PLEASE.  If you see a tree that needs attention, contact the Children and Elders Forest Board Chair, Mike Sublett (pasmds@outlook.com), to report your concern.

Sincerely,

The Trees
